Configure your carbon fibre sheet
Description
Description
Our carbon fibre sheets are made from offcuts of material by TORAY, one of the world’s most renowned carbon fibre manufacturers for quality, innovation and reliability.
Toray Industries, Inc. is a Japanese multinational founded in 1926 and today a global leader in advanced materials, including high-performance carbon fibres used in the aerospace, automotive, sports, medical and industrial sectors.
Toray materials are valued for their high quality, consistent mechanical properties and superior performance.
Two types of fibre are available: T300 and T700, both selected for their excellent mechanical performance.
The designations T300 and T700 indicate the tensile strength of the fibre, expressed in MPa (megapascals) and multiplied by 1,000:
T300: approx. 3,500 MPa, density 1.7 g/cm^3 >>> standard high-strength fibre, versatile and suitable for many applications.
T700: approx. 4,900 MPa, density 1.8 g/cm^3 >>> high-performance fibre with greater mechanical strength and stiffness, ideal for more demanding structural applications.
All our sheets have a 3K fibre weave, where “3K” means that each tow of the fabric is made up of 3,000 individual carbon filaments. This is the most common configuration for industrial and decorative applications, as it offers an excellent balance of strength, flexibility and workability.
3K fibres also have a much appreciated look, with a clearly visible, regular weave.
Two weave types are available: PLAIN and TWILL, each with a GLOSS or MATT surface finish, depending on the look you want.
The sheets are made by stacking several layers of fibre. The two outer layers determine the appearance, while the inner layers are unidirectional (UD) fibre, cross-plied at 90° to ensure dimensional stability, stiffness and mechanical strength in all directions.
